Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2–3 tablespoons sugar (or sweetener of choice)
- 2 tablespoons water or orange juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Rinse fresh blueberries or measure frozen ones (no need to thaw). Gather your sweetener and optional flavorings.
- Cook: In a medium saucepan, combine blueberries, sugar, and water over medium heat. Stir occasionally.
- Simmer: Let the mixture simmer for 5–10 minutes until the blueberries soften and release their juices. Mash some for a thicker texture, if desired.
- Add Flavor: Stir in lemon juice, vanilla, or spices for added depth.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from heat, allow to cool, and serve warm or chilled.
Notes
- For thicker compote, simmer longer or add 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water.
- Adjust sweetness to taste, especially with fresh or tart blueberries.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or freeze for 3 months.
