Ingredients
Scale
For the Churros Dough:
- 1 cup (240ml) water
- 2 tbsp (28g) unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp (12g) granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 large egg (optional, for a softer texture)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the Chocolate Dipping Sauce:
- ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
- 4 oz (115g) dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tbsp (12g) sugar (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dough:
- In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat and add flour all at once, stirring vigorously until a smooth dough forms. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Stir in vanilla extract. If using an egg, beat it in until fully incorporated.
-
Pipe the Churros:
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star-shaped tip.
- Pipe 5-6 inch strips onto parchment paper, using scissors or a knife to cut each piece.
-
Fry the Churros:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the churros in small batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
-
Coat the Churros:
- While still warm, roll the churros in a cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
-
Make the Chocolate Sauce:
- Heat heavy cream in a saucepan until warm (but not boiling). Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate.
- Let sit for 1 minute, then stir until smooth. Sweeten with sugar if desired.
-
Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping. Enjoy immediately for the best texture!
Notes
- For a healthier version, bake churros at 375°F (190°C) for 18-20 minutes instead of frying.
- If the dough feels too thick to pipe, add a tablespoon of warm water to loosen it slightly.
- Leftover churros can be reheated in an air fryer or oven for a crispier texture.
