Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Kunafa Layer:
    • 1 ½ cups kataifi (shredded phyllo dough)
    • 3 tbsp melted unsalted butter or coconut oil
  • For the Pistachio Filling:
    • 1 cup pistachio cream
    • 2 tbsp tahini
    • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (or adjust to taste)
  • For the Chocolate Coating:
    • 12 oz dark, milk, or white chocolate (high-quality, chopped)
    • 1 tsp coconut oil (optional, for shine)
  • For Garnish (Optional):
    • Crushed pistachios
    • Filaments of toasted kataifi

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Kunafa:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Spread the kataifi on a baking sheet and drizzle with melted butter.
    • Bake for 8–10 minutes, stirring halfway, until golden and crispy. Let cool.
  2. Make the Pistachio Filling:
    • Combine pistachio cream, tahini, and powdered sugar in a bowl. Mix until smooth and refrigerate for 10–15 minutes to firm up.
  3. Melt and Temper Chocolate:
    • Melt two-thirds of the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a double boiler. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining chocolate until smooth. Add coconut oil if desired.
  4. Assemble the Bars:
    • Spread a thin layer of chocolate at the base of your mold. Let it partially set.
    • Add a layer of toasted kataifi, followed by a generous layer of pistachio filling.
    • Cover with the remaining melted chocolate and smooth the top.
  5. Chill and Serve:
    • Refrigerate for 30–45 minutes until firm.
    • Remove from molds, garnish with crushed pistachios or toasted kataifi, and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute pistachios with hazelnuts or almonds for a twist.
  • For a vegan version, use dairy-free chocolate and plant-based butter.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
