- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Purple, green, and gold sanding sugar
- Plastic baby figurine (optional, for tradition!)
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, butter, eggs, salt, and vanilla.
- Add the yeast mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
2️⃣ Make the Filling & Shape the Cake:
- Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter into a paste.
- Roll out the dough into a large rectangle (about 10×20 inches).
- Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough into a log shape, then form a ring and pinch the ends together.
3️⃣ Second Rise & Bake:
- Transfer to a lined baking sheet, cover, and let it rise for another 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool.
4️⃣ Decorate & Serve:
- Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
- Drizzle over the cake, then sprinkle with purple, green, and gold sugar.
- Insert the plastic baby figurine underneath the cake before serving (if using).
