Create an eye-catching Spiderman cake with bold red and blue colors, smooth fondant, and iconic web designs. This superhero-inspired cake is perfect for birthdays, featuring a moist, flavorful base and a stunning decoration that will wow any Spidey fan!

  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: 10-12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Red and blue gel food coloring

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Black gel food coloring

For Decoration:

  • Red and blue fondant
  • Black edible food marker or black royal icing for web design
  • White fondant or edible prints for Spiderman’s eyes

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  • Add Eggs & Vanilla: Mix in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  • Alternate Adding Dry & Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, starting and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  • Color the Batter: Divide the batter into two bowls. Tint one half red and the other blue using gel food coloring.
  • Bake: Pour the batters into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cakes cool completely before decorating.
  • Make the Buttercream: Beat butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar. Add heavy cream and vanilla, beating until fluffy. Separate a small amount and tint black for piping.
  • Assemble & Frost: Level the cakes if needed, stack them with a thin buttercream layer in between, and cover the entire cake with red buttercream.
  • Decorate: Roll out blue fondant for the sides and red fondant for the top. Attach to the cake smoothly. Use black royal icing or an edible marker to create Spiderman’s web.
  • Final Touches: Add white fondant or printed edible eyes. Chill the cake slightly before serving for clean slices.

Notes

  • For a softer cake, replace whole milk with buttermilk.
  • Chill the cake before adding fondant to prevent melting or sagging.
  • No fondant? Use extra buttercream and pipe the Spiderman design instead!
